Cheran Higher Secondary School, Karur

Mr. P.M. Karuppannan, Chairman, Cheran Schools, Karur was born on 13.11.1934 at Kallipalayam, Attur. Despite his irresistible desire towards education, he could not continue his schooling after std: VIII owing to his family commitments. Since he wanted the students of Karur District to taste the nectar of education, he constructed a school in his own village in the year 1961 and handed over to the Government, after its inauguration, by the then C.M. of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Kamarajar.

Due to his overwhelming inclination to serve the cause of education, he laid a strong foundation to Cheran by taking up the responsibility of a non-native?s school which was under an irrecoverable loss. Thus, the seeds for Cheran were sown in 1982 with just 100 students. The school was then functioning in his own place at Ramakrishnapuram, Karur.
